Light Up The World (LUTW) is a Calgary-based charity focused on access to energy and solar technologies. LUTW is seeking an experienced financial “Jack/Jill-of-all-trades” to join our small team and manage all aspects of the accounting and reporting cycle. Wearing many hats, the successful applicant will possess a diverse skill set and fulfill the roles of bookkeeper, accountant, CFO and HR Manager.


Light Up The World (LUTW) is a Calgary-based charity focused on access to energy. Since 1997, LUTW has brought electricity to thousands of remote and underserved homes, schools, and community buildings in more than 50 countries. LUTW’S work is currently focused on serving off-grid communities in Canada (First Nations) and Peru.

Roles and responsibilities

The Financial Administrator performs a wide range of duties including but not limited to:

  • – Full-cycle bookkeeping
  • – Cash management
  • – Monthly account reconciliations
  • – All HR and payroll functions
  • – Inventory valuation & management
  • – Financial reporting (monthly, quarterly & annually)
  • – Budgeting & cash forecasting
  • – Assisting with annual audit requests
  • – Ensuring compliance with regulatory & filing requirements
  • – Managing all internal control and accounting processes
  • – Attending weekly team meetings and quarterly Board & Committee meetings


  • Certification, degree or equivalent experience in full-cycle bookkeeping, accounting and financial reporting5+ years experience in a senior accounting role in the non-profit/charitable sector
  • 5+ years experience with Quickbooks Premier Desktop & Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with Payworks, Dropbox, Angaza, Paypal, Stripe an asset
  • Experience with inventory management an asset
  • Experience with social enterprise an asset
  • Must be fluent in English.  Spanish fluency an asset

Hours:  15-20 hours a week, with more during busy periods

Compensation: $2,500 – $3,000 per month (commensurate with experience)
